From Guantanimo Bay to a war against
Iraq:
A post New World Order?
On
Sunday 2nd March 2003, EOHR will hold a roundtable
discussion entitled “From Guantanimo Bay to War with Iraq: A post New
World Order?”. A number of intellectuals, academics and journalists
will participate in the discussions.
The objective of the
roundtable is to discuss changes in international relations post
September 11 and the possible war against Iraq. The questions to be
examined include whether the current climate is a post New World Order
era or rather the extension of a past era. The future of the United
Nations and international human rights law, as well as the
establishment of the International Criminal Court, will be discussed.
Further, EOHR aims to
discuss issues such as the future of international structures and
standards and the challenges to these following the Cold War and the
so-called New World Order. EOHR remains deeply concerned at the
erosion of international legal structures such as the United Nations.
Ironically, such challenges to the international rule of law are
occurring alongside the emergence of the International Criminal Court.
EOHR hopes that this
meeting will contribute to finding solutions to present day
challenges. |
