    Conference on "Priorities and Mechanisms of Reform in the Arab World"
    From 5-7 of July, 2004, Cairo

            The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, Cairo Center for Human Rights Studies, and "Al Seyasa Al Dawlia" magazine are organizing a conference on "Priorities and Mechanisms of Reform in the Arab World" which will be taking place in Samiramis Intercontinental Hotel, Cairo, in the period from 5-7 of July 2004. About 50 participants from 13 Arab Country will be taking part in the conference, including human rights activists, academics, and media men.

            The conference will be discussing ways to realize reform initiatives. Also tackling the results of the Arab Summit and the three international summits took place last June (G8, Euro-American Summit, and NATO). The main concern will be the external initiatives for reform in the Arab world. The conference will also display some previous experiences of reform in the Arab countries from the civil society institutions' perspective in Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, and others. In addition to the relation between the external challenges on one hand, for example the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Iraqi war, and the democratic reform and human rights on the other hand. The conference will conclude to a roundtable discussion about how to transform the reform issue from just theoretical talks into practical steps.
