EOHR presents proposal for amendment of article 76 to the People's Assembly and Shura Council

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) is convening a roundtable discussion under the title article 76: the international experience and the special features of the Egyptian case today (3/5/2005) at 4.00 p.m. in the Pyramisa Hotel, Doqqi, Cairo.
Members of the Egyptian Constitutional Observatory - which brings together leading jurists, academics, political party and civil society figures, members of the People's Assembly as well as human rights experts - will participate in the discussion. The Observatory was formed at the close of the proceedings of the 9th EOHR Intellectual Forum held in February of this year.
The discussion will examine the text of the proposed amendment to article 76 with regard to nomination criteria, formation of a supervisory committee for the elections, funding regulations, the use of the media during election campaigns and which issues must be dealt with by the Constitution and which can be left to legislation.
EOHR will present a draft proposal for the amendment of article 76 for consideration by members of the Observatory during its second meeting which will be presented to the People's Assembly and Shura Council.
