EOHR Demands Immediate Investigation on al- Zumur's Disappearance and Abou al-Makarim's Hunger Strike

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) expresses its deepest concerns regarding inmate Aboud al-Zumur's disappearance from Leaman Torah Prison since 26/1/2006 as well as prisoner Mohamed Abou al-Makarim al-Moursy al-Nabrawy's hunger strike at Leaman Torah Prison 430, al-Natroun Valley since 17/ 1/ 2006.
EOHR had received a complaint from Mr. Abou al-Makarim's family to the effect that he, an epileptic, started a hunger strike at Leaman Torah Prison 430. EOHR sent a representative to Leaman Torah on 19/1/2006 in order to investigate reasons of Abou al-Makarim's strike. Mr. Abou al-Makarim said he would go on a hunger strike until his release and as a protest against his imprisonment in Leaman Torah 430 criminal prison.
EOHR has also received a complaint from Mr. Abou al-Zumur's family. Mr. Aboud (Case 2359/1982-Abdein Criminal Court) completed his life sentence. His family claimed they went to visit him on 26/ 1 /2006 only to discover his disappearance. When they inquired about his imprisonment place, they got no answer. The prison's administration, on its part, refused to reissue another permit for future visits.
As EOHR expresses its deepest concerns on the disappearance of inmate Aboud al-Zumur and the deteriorating condition of Abou al-Makarim, it calls upon the Interior Minister to immediately launch an internal investigation on Abou al-Makarim's strike and to help end it.
EOHR also calls upon the minister to launch another investigation on al-Zumur's disappearance. Meanwhile, EOHR calls upon the Public Prosecutor, his vested powers stated in Criminal Procedures Law, Article 42, taken into consideration, to issue an order for Public Prosecution members to inspect on al-Zumur's disappearance and to reveal his place.
