An international conference for EOHR and Fredrich Nawman Institution concerning the reformation of the legal framework for the right of peaceful assembly in Arabian world

EOHR in collaboration with Fredrich Nawman Institution will hold a conference entitled” Consolidating talk between governments and civil society concerning laws reformation “ at the premises of Arab League between 16-17 of Jan 2008 . This conference will be held under the auspices of Mr.Amr Mosa , Secretary General of Arab League .
This conference aimed at establishing arrangement mechanisms among civil society ,Arabian governments and Arab League institutions to obtain the right of peaceful assembly through reforming laws related to political parties , civil society institutions and trade unions.
This conference concludes the first stage of the subsidized project of European Union under the title of “ Consolidating the legal framework of peaceful assembly through national talk and strengthen the capabilities of civil society”. This project was adopted by Fredrich Nawman institution in the cooperation with its partners in Jordan ,Lebanon, Syria ,Palestine and Egypt and with civil society authorization in Arab League .
Participants will discuss the political papers that evaluates the situation of Arabian legislations related to the freedom of peaceful assembly in the view of governments fears and civil society ambitions . These political papers were prepared by Egyptian Organization For Human Rights (Egypt) , Arabian Center for Developing Law & Honest (Lebanon) ,National Center For Human Rights in Jordan , Coalition for Honest And Questioning ( Aman ) in Palestine . These papers emerged from consulting period lasted for 6 months among a wide range of representatives of civil societies and governments.
The main consequences of these papers shows the existence of a wide gab among formed laws and its applications . for instance , Jordan papers emphasizes that political parties is the base of democracy and fighting political parties means fighting democracy .Participants will draft a real suggestions concerning the way to amend existed laws and discuss strategies to apply it .
Arabian and international experts like Dr. Amr Hamzay ,Dr. Nader Fergany,Dr. Gamal Barot,Dr.Sayed Yssin ,Mr. Hafez Abu Seada will participate in the activity of this conference .
