The Egyptian Organization holds a seminar concerning the regional and international legislations to fight terrorism

EOHR will hold a seminar entitled “Regional and international legislations to fight terrorism ……….. Lessons learned “ On 18/2/2008 at 6 pm at EOHR ‘s premises . The seminar will include speakers as follows :-
Dr. Mahmoud Kabish - Vicar of Faculty of Law at Cairo University.
Dr. Ibrahim Darwish - Professor of constitutional law at Cairo University.
Dr. Nabil Helmi - Professor of International Law, University of Zagazig.
Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim - Expert at Al-Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies and an expert in terrorism cases.
Mr. Mahmoud Murad – Writer and journalist at Al Ahram newspaper.
The seminar will include a group of specialists of this issue ,university professors , number of members of People's Assembly and Shura Council , representatives of parties , political forces and civil society activists.
The seminar aimed to discuss regional and international legislation to fight terrorism and lessons learned for Egypt, through familiarizing the legislation set by USA, Britain, Germany, France and Spain to fight terrorist crime, as well as regional legislations stipulated in this regard, Hafez Abu Seada ,Secretary General of the Egyptian Organization For Human Rights confirmed
The workshop also tries to answer several questions, including:
- What is the United Nation effort to combat terrorism and protect human rights?.
- Was the international legislation sufficient to deter the perpetrators of terrorism and protect human rights at the same time? .
- What is the ideal legislative model for Egyptian legislator when enacting the new law for terrorism? .
The seminar comes as a part of the draft of fighting terrorism through strengthening of democracy in cooperation with the European Union, whose prime objective is to support the democratic development in Egypt, through monitoring and controlling of the impact of the inclusion of terrorism fighting articles in the constitutional amendments of this development on one hand, and the impact of terrorism law on this development as well, and how to achieve the balance between fighting terrorism and protecting human rights. Abu Seada added.
