    Models of Families under Detention {2

    Twelfth family

    Two sons of this family are detained. The father says:" My sons were imprisoned since 11 years and everyday I dream of their release, but this never happens. My two sons never hung out with bad people, but they were arrested on the street. With the passing of the years I am getting older and I am very worried to die before seeing them getting out of prison. Nevertheless, I do y best to work and get the necessary money for visiting my sons. Instead of me relaxing during my final years, I am obliged to work while my sons are put in prison.
  • 1- Nabil Zaky Alam El Din was imprisoned on the 17th of May 1990 and was moved from a prison to another until he was put in the Wady El Gedid prison. He is 30 years old, single and has slipped disc. He is a student in the Faculty of Art, Helwan University and he could not take the exam. His family is not able to visit him regularly, because the prison is far away from the house of the family.
  • 2- Emad Zaky Alam El Din was imprisoned during the year 1996 and after moving from a prison to another he was kept in Wady El Gedid prison. He is 27 years old, single and has bronchitis. He got many release permissions but they were never executed. The family asks the officials to release the two sons, in order for them to carry the load of the family under such difficult living conditions.

    Thirteenth family

    Two sons of this family are detained and the father, who was very sad because of the detention of his two sons, died and now the mother is in charge of the family. Although she is an old woman and has many diseases, still she works as hard as she can in order to get the necessary money to visit her sons in prison. She is also mentally, financially and physically exhausted especially that her two sons are put in different prisons, which requires lots of money for her to go visit them, and she is afraid to die before seeing them getting their release and taking care of her.
  • 1- Mahmoud Hassan Tamam Aly was imprisoned during the year 1995 and was moved from a prison to another until he was put in the Damanhour prison. He is 30 years old, single and has bronchitis. He is also a student in Faculty of Law, University of Banha and he could not take the exams. His family suffers from the fact that he always needs expensive medication, which increases the financial load on them.
  • 2- Sayyed Hassan Tamam Aly was imprisoned during the same year like his brother and was moved from a prison to another until they kept him in the Tora prison. He is 33 years old and is single. His family asks the officials to release the two sons so they would carry out their obligations towards their family.

    Fourteenth family

    Two members of this family were detained and here is what the mother told the organization:" Their father is 65 years old and I am 62 and they have one handicapped sister. The father is sick and cannot go out of the house because of his sickness. We earn a very small amount of money, which is not enough for buying the necessary medication and visiting the sons on a regular basis. That is why we sell furniture from our house in order to be able to meet all the needs of the house and those of our two sons put in prison.
  • 1- Tarek Abdel Fattah Ibrahim El Attar was put in the Abou Zabal prison and he is supposed to be spending 15 years in the prison. He is 34 years old, single and is a student in the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, but he could not take the exam.
  • 2- Ahmed Abdel Fattah Ibrahim El Attar was detained during the year 1996, because his brother was accused and imprisoned in a dangerous case. He was moved from a prison to another until he was put in the prison of Damanhour. He is 22 years old, single and in the Faculty of Commerce, Cairo University and he did not take the exam.
    The family asks the officials to release the two sons, because the family needs their financial help. The parents, who are old and sick, ask the officials to at least move the two sons into one prison together so that the expenses would be less.

    Fifteenth family

    This family has two of its sons put in prison and the family is living under very bad financial conditions. The father is 70 years old and he works hard in order to meet the needs of the house. That is why he is not able to meet his sons regularly, because the expenses of the visits are very high. He is afraid, because of his old age, that soon he will face many illnesses, and then he will not be able to get the necessary money for the house. That is why he is hoping that his sons will get out of prison and will take care of him during his last years.
  • 1- Mohamed Salah Shehata was detained during the year 1992 and after moving from a prison to another he was kept in the Wady El Natroun 2 prison. He is 40 years old and has bronchitis.
  • 2- Mostafa Salah Shehata was imprisoned during the year 1992 and was moved from a prison to another until he was put in the same prison with his brother, Wady El Natroun 2. He is now 35 years old, single and has peptic ulcer.
    The family asks the officials to release the two sons, or at least one of them, because the father is very old and the parents need a constant source of money.

    Sixteenth family

    Two sons of this family were detained and immediately after they were imprisoned the father died. The mother, who was very sad because of the imprisonment of her sons and the death of her husband, is suffering from many illnesses and needs lots of medication. The only brother outside the prison is obliged to take care of the sick mother and to get the money needed for visiting his two brothers.
  • 1- Ahmed Rady Seyam was detained during the year 1994 and after moving from a prison to another he was put in the Wady El Gedid prison. He is 35 years old, single and has bronchitis.
  • 2- Mohamed Rady Seyam was imprisoned during the year 1994 and was moved from a prison to another until they put him in the Wady El Gedid prison. He is 30 years old, single and the family asks the officials to release the two sons, because they did not do anything illegal and because of the bad health condition of their mother.

    Seventeenth family

    Two sons of this family are detained, the father is dead and the mother, although old and sick, is in charge of the family and the two imprisoned sons. She works hard to visit her two sons on a regular basis, and what is tiring her the most is the fact that her two sons are put in two different prisons, which are far away from each other.
  • 1- Shehata Mohamed Abdel Aziz Saleh was imprisoned during the year 1994 and was moved from a prison to another until he was put in the Abou Zabal prison. He is 35 years old, single and has nephritis and peptic ulcer and he is always in need of medication.
  • 2- Abdallah Mohamed Abdel Aziz Saleh was imprisoned during the year 1991 and was moved from a prison to another until the kept him in the Tora prison. He is 30 years old, single and has nephritis.
    The family asks the officials to release the two sons for the sake of the mother, or at least put the two sons in one prison to lessen the money burden of the visits.

    Eighteenth family

    Three members of this family are detained, their father is dead, and they are all married. Two of the three sons have children in different educational levels and the wives suffer from the load on their shoulders. They do not have a constant financial source and they have to work hard in order to meet the basic needs of their families and in order to be able to visit their husbands.
  • 1- Mohamed Elsaeed Ibrahim Elsayyed was imprisoned on the 15th of February 1994 and after moving from a prison to another they put him in the Damanhour prison. He is 50 years old, married and has three children in different educational levels. He was a deputy in one of the secondary schools and now he has bronchitis and his wife does not work and the pension is not enough.
  • 2- Mahmoud Elsaeed Ibrahim Elsayyed was detained on the 9th of December 1992 and was moved from a prison to another until they put him in the Damanhour prison. He is 44 years old, married and has three children in different educational levels. His wife does not work and he has a heart disease and needs lots of medication.
  • 3- Hamed Elsaeed Ibrahim Elsayyed was imprisoned on the same day as his older brother (9/12/1992) and after moving from a prison to another he was put in the prison of Damanhour. He is 38 years old, married and he was arrested one month after his wedding. His wife does not work and he has nephritis and he needs lots of medication.

    Nineteenth family

    Two sons of this family were imprisoned, but one of them died within the prison and the other suffers from many illnesses. This affected the health of the parents, who are now afraid that the other son will also die in prison like his brother.
  • 1- Salah Soliman Selim was imprisoned on the 11th of December 1995 and was moved from a prison to another until he was put in the Wady El Gedid prison and he died there on the 25th of January 2002, when he was 38 years old. He was an agricultural teacher in high school and he suffered from high blood pressure and other illnesses. His family visited him a month before his death, but then he died on the above mentioned date and his body was moved to where he lived and it was buried there.
  • 2- Mahrous Soliman Selim was imprisoned in the year 1996 and after moving from a prison to another he was kept in the Wady El Gedid prison. He is 35 years old, and he suffers from piles and his family is afraid that he will face the same end as his brother. That is why the family asks the officials to release him.

    Twentieth family

    This family has two sons not at home; one is in prison and the other disappeared. The father, who is 63 years old says:" Both my sons were arrested, one was put in the prison and the other is missing since the day they arrested him. I searched for him in al the prisons and I asked about him everywhere, but no one knows where he is. I hope they both get out of prison and help me".
  • 1- Yassin Soliman Yassin was imprisoned on the 5th of August 1997 and was moved from a prison to another until they put him in the Wady El Gedid prison. He is 26 years old, single and has bronchitis. The family, facing financial difficulties to get the required medicine for the son, cannot visit him regularly because of the high expenses spent on every visit.
  • 2- Nasser Soliman Yassin was arrested on the 5th of August 1997 and since then no one knows where he is, although the family begged the officials to tell them in which prison he was kept. He is 32 years old, single and family tried several times to find out where he is, but it could not get any information. The family is asking the officials to release the first son and to give information about the second son.

    Twenty-first family

    Two members of this family were imprisoned; the father and the son. This is a big problem, because when the father was imprisoned, the son was in charge of the family. But now after the son got imprisoned too, the mother is in charge and this creates lots of tension, because the money she gets is not enough to meet all the needs of the family and to go visit the father and the son in the prison especially that each one of them is put in another prison.
  • 1- Mahmoud Fahmy Abdel Salam was imprisoned during 1996 and after moving from a prison to another he was put in the Abou Zabal prison. He is 60 years old, married and has a number of children and he has diabetes mellitus.
  • 2- Hamam Mahmoud Fahmy Abdel Salam was imprisoned in the year 2000 and was moved from a prison to another until he was put in the prison of Fayoum. He is 24 years old, married and has a child. The family suffers from financial problems. That is why the visits to the son are not regular.
    The family asks the officials to release the father and the son in order for them o be in charge of the family again and to provide the family with the care and money it needs.

    Twenty-second family

    This family has two sons in prison and one of them is married and has a number of children. The father of the two sons is in charge of both families, which creates a heavy load on his shoulders. He works hard in order to meet the basic needs of both families and to visit his imprisoned children, but he is afraid he will grow old and will not be able to handle the situation alone anymore without his children standing by his side.
  • 1- Omar Abdel Tawab Kamel was imprisoned in the year 2000 and was put in the prison of Fayoum. He is 23 years old, single and his family is not able to visit him on a regular basis.
  • 2- Youssef Abdel Tawab Kamel was imprisoned during the same year and was put in the same prison (Fayoum). He is 25 years old, married and has four children. His wife does not work and the family is facing financial problems and is not able to visit the son regularly.
    The family asks the officials to release the two sons in order for them to help the old father in spending on the family and to raise the children.

    Twenty-third family

    Two sons of this family were imprisoned. This is what the mother said to the representative of EOHR:" My husband died while one of my sons was in the military school. Fifteen days after he graduated, he was arrested and 3 years later my other son was arrested, too. And I do not have a constant money source, I am very weak and because they were put in far away prisons, it is always very hard for me to go and visit them on a regular basis.
  • 1- Ibrahim Emam Ammar was imprisoned in the year 1993 and was moved from a prison to another until they put him in the Fayoum prison. He is 30 years old, single and has weak vision and peptic ulcer.
  • 2- Ammar Ibrahim Ammar was imprisoned in the year 1996 and is now in Fayoum prison, too. He is 27 years old, single, and the family is asking the officials to release the two sons, because the mother is old and needs her sons beside her to work, get money and take care of her, or to put the two sons in one prison.

    Twenty-fourth family

    This family has two of its sons put in prison. The family faces lots of financial and mental problems, because of the growing needs of the sons' families and of the imprisoned sons themselves.
  • 1- Mohamed Sayyed Amin Hemeida was imprisoned in the year 1994 and was moved fro a prison to another until he was put in the prison of Wady E Gedid. He is 40 years old, married and has a number of children. He has bronchitis.
  • 2- Fathy Sayyed Amin Hemeida was imprisoned in the year 1994 and after moving from a prison to another he was put in the prison of Wady El Gedid. He is 37 years old, married and has a number of children.
    The family asks the officials to release the two sons, because there is not a constant financial source for the family and in order to take care of their children.

    Twenty-fifth family

    This family has two sons imprisoned. After the first one was imprisoned, the other son was helping the father with the family expenses, but later when he got arrested, too, the father had to carry the load all alone. The family mentioned the fact that there was no illegal action done by the sons that would explain their imprisonment. The family is facing many financial problems, because there is no constant financial source and the father is very old.
  • 1- Ahmed Mahmoud Zein El Din Ismail was imprisoned in the year 1997, because his brother was imprisoned before him. He was moved from a prison to another ad now he is kept in the Wady El Gedid prison.
  • 2- Mohamed Mahmoud Zein El Din Ismail was imprisoned in the year 1993 and was moved from a prison to another and now he is the Wady El Gedid prison.

    Twenty-sixth family

    Two sons of this family are in prison. The family is afraid that the sons will be kept in prison for a long period of time, when the parents will be old and tired and unable to meet the needs of the family or of visiting the sons in prison.
  • 1- Gouda Sedky Mohamed was imprisoned during the year 1995 and was moved from one prison to another and now he is in the Wady El Gedid prison.
  • 2- Hassan Sedky Mohamed was imprisoned in the year 1995 and after moving from one prison to another he was kept in the Wady El Gedid prison. The family asks the officials to release the two sons because of the bad health and financial conditions of the family.

    Twenty-seventh family

    Two sons of this family are imprisoned since ten years. Although the parents are old and the father has to carry the financial load alone, they still try to visit their sons in the prison every now and then.
  • 1- Ahmed Azmy Gayyed Elmahdy was imprisoned in the year 1992 and after moving from a prison to another he was put in the prison of Wady El Gedid.
  • 2- Mohamed Azmy Gayyed Elmahdy was imprisoned during the same year and was moved from a prison to another and now he is the prison of El Wady El Gedid.

    Twenty-eighth family

    This family has two sons in prison and it is facing lots of problems like the above mentioned families. Nevertheless, the family is working hard in order to be able to meet the needs of the two sons, who are in prison.
  • 1- Essam Shokry Sakr was imprisoned in the year 1995 and after moving from a prison to another he was put in the Wady El Gedid prison.
  • 2- Awaad Shokry Sakr was imprisoned in the same year and was moved from a prison to another until they kept him in the Wad El Gedid prison. The family asks the officials to release the two sons, so they could take care of the old parents and provide them with their basic needs.

    Twenty-ninth family

    Two sons from this family were imprisoned, and the parents got many illnesses since then because of their great feelings of sorrow and sadness. Moreover, the father died and now the mother is responsible all alone of the house and is also suffering from many diseases, which weakened her health and made it hard for her to work and gain money.
  • 1- Samir Hares Abdel Wehab was arrested on the 11th of October 1995 and after moving him from one prison to another he was put in the prison of Fayoum. He is 37 years old, married and has two children the oldest of them is in primary school. The wife does not work and the family does not have a constant source of money. The family always faces financial problems and what increases these problems is the fact that the father is sick in prison and he needs lots of medication. This makes it even harder for the wife to visit her husband on a regular basis.
  • 2- Aboul Fotouh Hares Abdel Wehab was imprisoned in the year 1995 and was moved from a prison to another until he was put in the prison of Damanhour. He is 34 years old and suffers under many illnesses like liver cirrhosis and epilepsy. The family pays lots of money in order to visit the two sons, because they are put in prisons that are far away from each other and far away from the house of the family, too. The family is asking the officials to release the two sons so that they will take care of the family and raise the children.

    Thirtieth family

    Two sons from this family are imprisoned. The parents of the two sons were too sad because of the imprisonment of their sons to the extent that both of them, the mother and the father, died. The brother of the two sons is taking care of them now. He has to save money in order to be able to go and visit them. Because these visits require too much money, he works hard all the time, and that is why he visits his brothers only once every 6 months.
  • 1- Essam Niaz Taha Kassem was imprisoned in the year 1994 and was moved from a prison to another until they kept him in the Wady El Gedid prison. He is 32 years old, single, he was a teacher, and he got nephritis inside the prison. This requires regular visits and medication, but his relatives are not capable of providing this to him.
  • 2- Yasser Niaz Taha Kassem was arrested in the year 1994 and after moving from one prison to another he was kept in the Wady El Natroun 2 prison. He is 30 years old, single, and was a teacher before getting arrested. He got blind inside the prison and his relatives cannot visit him on a regular basis, because the prison is far away from the place he was living in.
    The family is asking the officials to release the two brothers, or at least to put them in one prison, so their relatives will be able to come visit them on a regular basis.
